Leticia “Tia” Butler is a civil litigator who has been practicing in State and Federal Courts throughout the State of California since her admission to the Bar in 2007. Ms. Butler has represented individual and entity clients in a wide array of business sectors through all stages of litigation for both Plaintiffs and Defendants. She is a driven attorney who prides herself on zealous but practical and business-minded representation of clients, as well as early identification and neutralization of problematic issues that have litigation potential.

Ms. Butler is active in the San Diego legal community and community at large. Highlights of community engagement include service as a Court Appointed Special Advocate for foster care youth with “Voices for Children” and a four-year elected term on the San Diego County Bar Association’s New Lawyer Division Board of Directors, including one year as Chair.

  • Analyzed mid-size employer’s exempt versus non-exempt employee classification throughout the organization to identify changes necessary to ensure compliance with labor laws and facilitate changes as necessary.
  • Conduct labor law seminars for business clients to help navigate California’s strict and ever-changing laws.
  • Review, revise and craft employee handbooks and policies for a myriad of businesses
  • Negotiated settlements and releases in advance of litigation for multiple employers where terminated employees threatened litigation.

  • Represented investment advising firm owner against attempted “forced take-over” of business.
  • Represented individuals in real estate fraud claim against large developer.
  • Represented worldwide entertainment company in wage and hour litigation which was tried before a jury and resulted in a defense verdict.
  • Represented a grocery store in a bad faith insurance claim against its carrier when the carrier denied coverage for a fire loss.
  • Represented general contractors in several complex construction defect litigation matters.
  • Represented financial institutions in countless wrongful foreclosure and alleged violation of California Homeowner Bill of Rights claims.
  • Represented class of approximately 350 security guards in overtime, rest and meal period action that resulted in multi-million‑dollar settlement.
  • Represented class members in a wide variety of cases involving California’s unfair competition laws.
